Doctor of Ministry Program

Areas of Interest

One hallmark of Truett's Doctor of Ministry degree is its flexibility to address the needs of your particular ministry setting.  Rather than following a pre-designated track, you will be guided by a variety of supervisors who will allow you to focus your individual research in ways that fit your particular interest and context.

Program Highlights

  • Three-Year Program - Truett’s DMin program follows the requirements of ATS. It is a 30-hour program and is designed to be completed in three years. It consists of four seminars running parallel to your individually guided study program (IGS) along with a spiritual formation emphasis. It concludes with your Culminating Project Dissertation and an oral defense.
  • Culminating Project Dissertation - All of your readings and seminars ultimately point toward your Culminating Project Dissertation. Beyond traditional studies in biblical texts, theology, and ministry methods, your aim is to complete a qualitative research project in a real-life ministry situation.
  • Spiritual Formation - Truett's DMin program is concerned not only with the spiritual health of the church as a whole but also with your own personal formation.  To accomplish this, spiritual formation runs like a scarlet thread through the degree.
  • Different from a PhD - Whereas a PhD is an academic research degree designed to prepare you for a tenure-track teaching position in a university setting, a DMin is the terminal doctoral degree for ministry practitioners. Consequently, your research and Culminating Project Dissertation will relate directly to your professional ministry practice.
  • Non-Residential - Truett's DMin program does not require residency except for four intensive seminars distributed over your first 2 years. All other elements of the program are completed from your local context working directly with your assigned supervisors.
